The Harper Collection of Dwarf & Rare Conifers

The Harper Collection of Dwarf & Rare Conifers was established by Justin "Chub" Harper in 1981 with the donation of 351 plants from his own backyard.  More than 25 years later the collection has grown to over 500 specimens. This collection is supported by the Harper Dwarf & Rare Conifer Collection Endowment set up and funded by Mr. Harper and many other people who enjoy dwarf and rare conifers.  A percentage of the income from this Endowment cares for and maintains this collection.

The Harper Collection of Dwarf & Rare Conifers occupies two commanding vistas. From the Upper Harper we have a panoramic view of the rolling glen that is the home of many of the original plantings.

At the base of the glen is the Lower Harper.  This is the showplace for the many witches’ brooms that have been collected from trees all over the country.  This part of the Collection was established when the Upper Harper was deemed full and more space was required to showcase these important, one-of-a-kind plants in the world.
